Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-07-10
This Privacy Policy explains how Limner LLC ("Limner", "we", "us"), a Virginia (USA) limited liability company, collects, uses, and protects information when you visit limnerart.com (the "Site"), use the Limner desktop application for Windows (the "App"), join the Limner beta, or purchase Limner Plus. Limner LLC is the data controller for the personal information described here.
The short version
- Your artwork stays on your device. The App contains no analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting, and it never uploads your documents.
- The Site asks before using analytics cookies: Google Analytics runs only if you allow it on the cookie banner. A signup form is used to send you a beta key.
- Limner Plus payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising.
Information we collect
Information you give us
When you submit the beta access form we collect your first name, last name, and email address, and optionally how you heard about Limner and your profession. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message.
When you buy Limner Plus, the purchase is processed by Stripe as the merchant of record: Stripe collects your name, email address, and payment details directly under its own privacy policy. We receive your email address and order details so we can issue and support your license key. Your full card number never reaches us.
Information collected automatically on the Site
If you allow analytics cookies on the cookie banner, we collect basic usage data through Google Analytics: pages viewed, the referring site, approximate location (from your IP address), and device and browser type (see "Cookies and analytics" below). Our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs. The beta form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which analyses limited browser signals, including your IP address, to tell people from bots. Some pages load fonts and scripts from content delivery networks (Google Fonts, unpkg); those servers receive your IP address when your browser fetches the files.
Information the App sends
The App contains no analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting. Your artwork, documents, and settings stay on your device. The App connects to the internet in only two situations:
- Update check. About once a day the App downloads a small version manifest from GitHub to see whether a newer release exists. The request carries no account, key, or personal identifier; like any web request, the server sees your IP address. You can turn the check off in Settings, and an update is only downloaded when you ask for it.
- Limner Plus activation. When you activate a Plus or beta key, the App sends the key id, a device identifier, and the App version to our license server, and periodically renews that activation. The device identifier is a randomly generated code created on first use; it is not derived from your hardware and identifies nothing except that one Limner installation. The App also fetches a signed list of revoked key ids, which carries no identifiers.
The Free tier needs no account or key, so beyond the optional update check it sends nothing at all. Our license server keeps a record of the email address each key was issued to, the key id, and activation records (device identifiers and timestamps) so we can enforce seat limits and re-send lost keys.
How we use information
We use personal information, with the legal bases the GDPR and similar laws require in parentheses:
- To send you a beta key and respond to your requests (performance of a contract).
- To deliver, activate, and support Limner Plus licenses, and to enforce seat limits (performance of a contract, legitimate interests).
- To send occasional updates about Limner, which you can opt out of at any time (consent).
- To understand how the Site is used and to improve Limner (legitimate interests, or consent where required).
- To keep the Site, the App, and the license system secure and to prevent abuse and fraud (legitimate interests).
- To meet legal obligations, such as tax and accounting records for purchases (legal obligation).
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral or targeted advertising.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (via Google Tag Manager) to measure Site traffic, and it is off by default. The first time you visit, a small banner asks whether we may use analytics cookies. Google Analytics loads, and its cookies are set, only after you choose "Allow analytics". If you decline, or simply ignore the banner, no analytics runs and no analytics cookies are set; the Site works exactly the same either way.
Your choice is saved in your browser (localStorage) and applies on this device until you clear your browser data or change it. To change it at any time, reopen the cookie banner and choose again; declining also removes any Google Analytics cookies already set. You can additionally refuse cookies in your browser settings, install the Google Analytics Opt-out add-on, or use a content blocker, without losing access to the Site. The App itself sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of providers to run Limner. Each receives only what its job requires:
- Netlify hosts the Site and receives beta form submissions (privacy).
- Google provides Analytics, Tag Manager, and web fonts (privacy).
- Cloudflare runs our license server (key issuance, activation, and the key records described above) and the Turnstile bot check (privacy).
- Resend delivers the emails that contain your key (privacy).
- Stripe processes Limner Plus purchases as merchant of record (privacy).
- GitHub hosts App downloads and the update manifest (privacy).
Data retention
We keep beta sign-up details for as long as the beta program is active or until you ask us to delete them. License records (email address, key id, activations) are kept for as long as the key can be used, plus whatever tax and accounting law requires for purchases. Analytics data is retained according to our Google Analytics settings. Support emails are kept as long as needed to resolve the issue and keep a record of it.
International transfers
Limner LLC is based in the United States and processes data there; our providers may also process data in other countries. Where your local law requires it (for example in the EEA, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland), transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or the provider's certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal information, to give you a copy of it, or to stop contacting you. Email limnersupport@limnerart.com and we will respond within the time the applicable law requires. We may first ask you to confirm you control the email address the data is tied to.
European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland. You also have the rights to restrict or object to processing (including any processing based on legitimate interests), to data portability, to withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
United States state laws. If you live in California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Utah, or another state with a consumer privacy law, you have the rights to know and access, correct, delete, and obtain a portable copy of your personal information, and to opt out of sales, sharing, targeted advertising, and profiling. We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it for such profiling, so there is nothing to opt out of; universal opt-out signals such as Global Privacy Control therefore do not change how the Site behaves. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any right. If we decline a request, we will explain why, and you can appeal by replying to our decision; if you disagree with the outcome of an appeal you can contact your state Attorney General.
Security
The Site, the license server, and the update system all use HTTPS. License keys and activation leases are cryptographically signed, App installers are code signed and verified by the updater before they run, and payment details never touch our systems. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we keep the amount of personal data we hold deliberately small.
Children
The Site, the beta program, and Limner Plus purchases are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email limnersupport@limnerart.com and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above shows the latest version, and if a change meaningfully reduces your rights we will highlight it on the Site.
